Fountain of Tears by Penny Sheahan
A Tear for the Nations
“I now send you forth into all the world —
My commission is unto thee.
Walk through the land; let your footsteps be heard
And then please describe it to Me.”
Many have known in times past, My Lord,
A people who have once loved Thee,
But the roots grow old in the earth my God —
Oh Father, where is the tree?
“My child, I’ve promised and I will fulfill,
For the righteous have walked this land.
Though no remnant remain;
No tree to be found,
Yet, I have a wondrous plan…
A tear for the nations,
Your crying is not in vain.
At the drop of your tears
The tree will grow,
And I will establish My Name.”

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him. –Matthew 25:6
Tears of Longing
Midnight oil, it’s time to go with You.
Midnight oil, I’ll have enough to use.
Midnight oil, I’ll follow by Your grace.
Midnight oil, I’ll finally see Your face.
For at the darkest place, I’ll find You’ll lead me home.
At the darkest hour, You beckon me to come.
And they all forsook Him, and fled.
–Mark 14:50
Tears of Loss
May I cry on Your shoulder?
I can’t bear the pain.
The love in Your heart will heal.
Oh, Jesus, You’re lovely,
You reach out Your hand. . .
“Touch My side and you’ll know how I feel.
My children forsook Me;
They all ran away,
Yet I seek them and mercies compass Me.
I’ll teach you to do this —
Gather many who’ve strayed —
The love in your heart spilling freely;
Out of your side flowing water and blood
That many may run home to meet Me.”
. . . her candle goeth not out by night. . . –Proverbs 31:18
Tears in the Night
Even tho the night is dark,
Even tho all hope depart,
There is a light within;
However flickering and dim,
It goeth not out,
It goeth not out.
And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, the work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
–Nehemiah 4:19
Tears of Separation
I look in your eyes. Are you there?
You gaze back at me with the emptiest stare.
Across the visions of your mind,
Shout after shout: “Are you blind?”
Don’t you hear the cries around?
Or are you just so tightly bound
You no loner care, you no longer see
Or want to be a part of me?
Now Jacob’s well was there.
Jesus, therefore, being wearied with His journey, sat thus on the well. . .
–John 4:6
Tears of Distress
Little woman at the well,
Such distress upon you fell.
All your fears our Lord to quell;
He’s walking toward you now.
Tears Will Cease
When Jesus comes, all tears will cease:
God Himself shall wipe them away.
Then all longing will be fulfilled;
There will be no sorrow or pain
As we melt into His eternal embrace.
Tears of compassion spent —
we journey home. . .
Tears of Compassion
Each of our tears is precious to the Lord, for each is an expression of our heart’s cry. His ears are always open; His heart is always touched by the tears of His children. He is moved with tremendous compassion when we are brought to the place of tears.
It is His desire to develop in us that same compassion. May we learn to weep as readily for others as we do for ourselves. May we develop a greater capacity for compassion through each tear we cry. . .
It is my prayer that your tears become a fountain of blessing. Mingled with the tears of many of God’s children, may our tears together become a mighty river of compassion — used by God to bless and heal a hurting world.
For a tear of compassion
begins in the heart;
It is born in cries of love,
And carried on the wings of
our own pain,
Will accomplish the intent
from above.
